Villas near Positano — Private Stays in Praiano, Amalfi Coast

Positano is one of the most searched destinations on the Amalfi Coast and one of the busiest. Praiano, 6 kilometres away, offers the same sea views, the same access to the coast, and a quieter, more authentic atmosphere. Palazzo Rocco is located there: four independent units with private terraces, daily cleaning, and no shared spaces with other guests.

Praiano, the Quiet Alternative to Positano

Praiano sits between Positano and Amalfi, on a stretch of coast that has historically attracted visitors looking for something more discreet. It has fewer shops and fewer tourists, but the same dramatic landscape: houses built into the cliffs, ceramic-tiled domes, terraced lemon groves, and unobstructed views across the Tyrrhenian Sea.

One detail that matters more than it might seem: Praiano faces west. Unlike Positano, which faces south, Praiano offers an unobstructed view of the sunset directly over the sea. Watched from a private terrace, with the Li Galli islands and Capri on the horizon, it is one of those things guests tend to mention long after the trip is over.

From Palazzo Rocco’s terraces, the bay of Positano, the Li Galli islands, and the outline of Capri are visible on clear days. The difference is that you are watching from a private outdoor space, not from a shared hotel balcony or a crowded viewpoint.

How Far Is Praiano from Positano?

Praiano is approximately 6 kilometres from Positano along the SS163 Amalfitana coastal road. By car, the drive takes around 15 to 20 minutes depending on traffic, which on summer days along this road can be significant. The two towns are also connected by public ferry, a more relaxed and often faster option in high season. Water taxis and private boat transfers can be arranged on request through Palazzo Rocco.

Positano is easily visited as a day trip from Praiano. The same applies to Amalfi (approximately 8 km), Ravello, Sorrento, and Capri.

Four Units, Each with a Private Sea View Terrace

Palazzo Rocco is made up of four fully independent units within a single historic building. Each has its own entrance and its own outdoor space, with no shared terraces and no shared access with other guests.

  • Villa Sunshining in Love sleeps up to 10 guests across four bedrooms, with two solarium terraces with a heated Jacuzzi and a dining room that seats up to 12. It occupies the oldest section of the building, restored in 2015.

  • Penthouse White Moon in Love is the highest unit in the complex, with panoramic views over Praiano and the sea. It has two bedrooms and a large terrace with rattan seating. It accommodates up to 6 guests.

  • Villa Red Moon in Love is a compact single-floor villa for up to 4 guests, with a 150 sqm garden terrace, sun loungers, and a barbecue. Well suited to couples or small families who want a private outdoor space to themselves.

  • The Golden Suite has one bedroom, a living and dining area with sofa bed for two adults, two bathrooms, and a kitchen with a private terrace. It accommodates up to 4 guests.

When all four units are available simultaneously, they can be rented together as a single private complex for up to 24 guests.

Getting to Praiano from the Main Arrival Points

The two nearest airports are Naples Capodichino and Salerno Costa d’Amalfi. From Naples, Praiano is approximately 60 kilometres by road, roughly 90 minutes by car via the A3 motorway and the SS163 coastal road. Private transfer from Naples, Salerno, or Rome directly to Praiano can be arranged through Palazzo Rocco on request.

By public transport, the most practical route is to take the train to Salerno, which has regular connections from Naples and Rome. From Salerno there are two options:

  • The SITA bus, which runs regularly along the SS163 Amalfitana and stops at all the coastal villages including Praiano. It is the more practical choice for flexibility.
  • The ferry service, which connects Salerno to the main towns along the coast. It is the more scenic option. Note that the ferry does not stop directly in Praiano — the nearest stops are Positano or Amalfi, from where a local bus or taxi covers the remaining distance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Praiano better than Positano for a relaxing holiday?

That depends on what you are looking for. Positano has more restaurants, more shops, and a livelier atmosphere, but it also has significantly more visitors, especially in July and August. Praiano is smaller, quieter, and less crowded, while still offering easy access to all the main destinations on the coast. Guests who have stayed in both often describe Praiano as the better base for a restful trip.

Can I visit Positano easily from Praiano?

Yes. Positano is about 6 km away and can be reached by car, by public ferry, or by water taxi. In peak season, the ferry is often the most practical option given the traffic on the coastal road.

Is there a beach in Praiano?

The fishing village of La Praia, 500 metres from Palazzo Rocco, has a beach with sun loungers, a diving centre, and restaurants directly on the water. It is a small, well-equipped beach, not a long sandy stretch, as is typical of this part of the coast.

Do I need a car to stay in Praiano?

Not necessarily. The Amalfi Coast is served by a regular SITA bus network connecting all the coastal villages, and the ferry service covers the main towns. The bus stop is within 200 metres of Palazzo Rocco. A car offers more flexibility, particularly for inland excursions, but many guests spend entire weeks in Praiano relying only on buses, boats, and the occasional taxi.
